The RS is an amazing and awesome car. Given that the Evo is dead, I am 110% happy that went into production and became something people can buy.

Kinja'd!!!

...buuuuut $50k? That’s approaching $15k over the STI. That’s only $5k away from a stingray or a GT350. That’s $1k away from a bloody Porsche Boxster!

No. Ford, I love you for a the neat stuff you make, but...no. All the no.

I think it’s $57k here after taxes.

Do a nationwide search, you’ll find them sans dealer markup. It does, however, mean driving a long, long way to get one at sticker price though.

The thing is, only one of those vehicles is comparable to the RS. I wouldn’t expect many people to cross shop the Cayman and the RS.

I’m still wondering who is it that is willing to pay 50 grand for one of these such that these dealers think they can price it as such. As you said, there are copious performance options at 50K. Hell when you price this thing at that level, it doesn't make sense any more. To me at least.

I like how they put a base focus as the pic so you know exactly what you're spending $50k on (a Ford Focus)

The problem is there are a lot more STIs out there than RSs. A few people who’s dream it is to own an RS would do that, but too many who would consider an alternative will skip the markup game and just grab an STI.

The smart consumers will wait like a year and just buy one without any dealer markup at all. It’s not like this is a limited production car or something.

The person who is paying that much, is the person who only cares about having the newest thing.

Is it legal for them to misrepresent the MSRP like that?

Even without dealer markup, the STi will be a better long-term value (and the interior won’t degrade into dust) and the Golf R will be a better “I’m-keeping-this-car-for-two-years” value. Ford needed to get the RS priced at no more than $38k, and just...didn't.

MSRP on the Focus RS starts at $35,900.

You’re not paying $38k OTD, sure. But that’s right in line with the STi and Golf R. And yes, people have been paying MSRP without markup - but most of them I’ve seen are loading up on options, too.

That’s not actually the MSRP, they’re being marked up by dealers but a glitch in AutoTrader allows dealers to show their markups as part of MSRP.

A fully loaded Focus RS with RS2 package, sunroof, 19" forged wheels with Michelin Cup 2 track tires, and a set of winter wheels & tires is $45,135. If you got only the regular wheels and tires it’s $41,150.

That’s dealer markups. Sticker on the Focus RS is $35-40k depending on options. The dealers are just being scum.

lol “people”. Just regular ol’ people buying a $50k hatchback. What’s wrong with these dealerships? Thanks, Obama.

Don’t direct your disdain to Ford. They’re not the ones adding $10k-$15k markup.

Or a Golf R, if you want a new hatchback.
